Responding to the question about the 101st and 11th Airborne at Ft. Campbell (then Camp Campbell) about 1950, both Camp Breckenridge and Camp Campbell were airborne training camps during WWII. The 11th Airborne Division was sent to the Pacific theater while the 101st went to the European theater for combat operations. When the war ended, the 11th stayed as an occupation force in Japan while the 101st was inactivated in Dec. '45. The 11th returned to Camp Campbell after leaving Japan in May 1949. When the Korean War broke out in June 1950, the 11th was again a training division at Camp Campbell while the 101st was reactivated soon after. After Korea, the 101st was reassigned to Breckenridge, inactivated in Dec. '53 then reactivated in May 1954 and sent to Fort Campbell in March 1956 (where is became permanently based) while the 11th was dissolved as a division (although briefly reactivated as a test unit from 1963 to 1965 in Vietnam).
