I had just returned from Taiwan where I’d been on R&R. I was on the manifest for the chopper that crashed. I was returning to Fire Support Base Jack by way of Camp Eagle. I was onboard the helicopter but was bumped by an infantry LT. I was a 1LT Field Artillery Officer with A/2/11 Arty, 101st Airborne. When the crash occurred, my unit was notified that I had been killed. I showed up a couple days later, much to my men’s amazement. And I was scheduled to return to the States in less than 3 weeks. I’ve always suffered from Survivor’s Remorse. That’s an event I’ll never [email protected]
