Colonel Andrew Lech Irzyk was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School class 9-64 on 27 October 1964. His first duty assignment was as Commander Operational Detachment Alpha 27, Company C, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne).
