Hi Friends and Family,
Recently I received a photo a guy took of me riding past him while I did the world famous Tail of the Dragon in eastern Tenn almost two months ago. It is only 11 miles in length but has 318 curves and twisties. You don’t take your eyes off the road while doing it.
On Sept 5, 2007, I rode the Tail both directions then did the Chehala Skyway, also in eastern TN and western NC. The next day I drove the NC portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway (attached photo), which in it’s entirety is about 460 miles in length, I only did about half of it. I did stop at the North Carolina State Arboretum (attached photo) which is just off the BRP. It was a great motorcycle trip that covered more than 2500
miles before it was done. During the trip, I stayed with family and friends and a few motels.
Last week I returned from a KY to Chicago to KY to Carrollton and did another 2500 miles. During this trip, I set a personal one day motorcycle mileage record of of 650 miles in 13.5 hours which included a few short stops plus about 15 tylenol. Not bad for an overweight old fart ( I will be 61 next month) with back problems. The 06 Honda Goldwing is quite a touring motorcycle that is made in America, engine and all, at Marysville, Ohio.
At last count, I have done 36 of the 50 states in my goal to do all fifty within 18 months. Not all will be on the motorcycle though. I still need to do the SW and the NE states, and of course Hawaii and Alaska. I try to visit each state, not just drive through it. For the most part, I stay off the interstate highways. PTL my physical health is holding. Also I am able to handle the CPAP machine for sleep apnea. The Lord willing and the creeks don’t rise too much, maybe someday our paths will cross again.
In War, In Peace, In Christ
Despite how it looks, I am smiling because it was just one of those rare days in life 🙂
